Abstract
The objective of this study was to carry out a systematic search and evaluation of existing literature in the diagnosis of clinical symptoms, radiographic and tomographic indexes of vertical root fractures in vital posterior teeth and endodontically treated teeth. A bibliographic search and strict inclusion criteria were carried out in the Pubmed and Scielo databases (Spanish and Portuguese), from 1980 to 2016 we found 730 studies that evaluated the diagnosis of vertical fractures in posterior teeth, the articles found describe clinical, radiographic and tomographic studies. After discarding some of the studies, 50 were selected,
and none of these articles met the inclusion criteria for a complete review of the article. Based on the results of this systematic review, there is no substantial evidence for an accurate diagnosis of vital and endodontically treated teeth.
Keywords: Systematic review, cracked teeth, vertical root fracture, endodontically-treated teeth.
