Labor transformation, social innovation and digital competencies: Challenges for higher education

Digital transformation has modified work organization and generated new competency demands for workers, creating important challenges for higher education institutions. The objective of this research is to analyze the capabilities and competencies associated with the digital transformation of work and to identify its main implications for higher education. A qualitative study based on a literature review was conducted using recent research on telework, digitalization, social innovation, and human capabilities. The analysis showed that digital transformation represents a process in which technology interacts with organizational, cultural, and social factors. Consequently, digital competencies, lifelong learning, and adaptive skills become essential elements for addressing emerging work scenarios. Likewise, social innovation and flexible organizational models contribute to the development of capabilities oriented toward collaboration, sustainability, and resilience. It is concluded that higher education institutions play a strategic role in preparing the human talent required by digital work environments, making it necessary to strengthen educational approaches that integrate technical competencies, human capabilities, and continuous learning.
