The Women's Strike for Argentinian Feminists. A study on the global politics of the Ni una menos collective

Abstract

Since 2015, the Ni una menos movement has been influential on different political fronts in Argentina, particularly in the trade union movement, from where it has radiated a global policy for feminism. At the national level, its impact is associated with the fact that it led the opposition to the neoliberal regime imposed in the country at the same time. At the international level, in just two years, it managed to build an appropriation of the strike to link it definitively with the global women's struggle. On these premises, this exploratory study is based on analyzing some twenty political documents produced by the Ni una menos collective in the first two years of its emergence. The purpose is to understand how the experience of this feminist activism gave birth to a policy on women's strikes, to challenge the predatory order of current neoliberalism. In doing so, it points to the historical bases of violence against women, while reviving emancipatory principles based on the community organization of social reproduction.
